Write about the following topic.

It is important for children to learn the difference between right and wrong at an early age. Punishment is necessary to help them learn the distinction. To what extent do you agree or disagree with this opinion?

Give reasons for your answer and include any relevant examples from your own knowledge or experience. Write at least 250 words.

Model Answer:

Whether punishment is essential to teach children between rights and wrong has become a hot topic of discussion causing public concern. Some people think it is necessary but I disagree with them for the following reasons.

First of all, I believe that the physical punishment can result in injuries in children even presenting danger to their lives. Sometimes, such punishments can take the life of the child. Each year, we come across many new reports which detail the trauma and sufferings of children who were seriously and severely harmed due to the excessive punishment meted out to them. No one could deny that rough act like this would simply make it more difficult for children to tell the difference between right and wrong especially for those in early ages.

Another negative aspect of punishment is that this will become a hindrance to the mental health of the young children. It may even have an adverse impact on the development of children in the long term. Since everyone has intuition and inclination to avoid potential threats from outside environment, there is a possibility that young children may isolate themselves from their parents to lessen harms. Such psychological response has a tendency to create an obstacle to the cordial relationships. It should be also noted that Children are likely to imitate their parents instinctively including these violent behaviors. Such imitations have risks of creating bullies. It can even lead people to violent crimes.

Therefore, in my conclusion, I would like to restate that the imposition of punishment on children is not the ideal way to help them distinguish right and wrong. We ought to opt for some less violent but more effective method to contribute to positive environment for child’s development.

WRITING TASK 2

You should spend about 40 minutes on this task.
Write about the following topic.

There is a good deal of evidence that increasing car use is contributing to global warming and having other undesirable effect on people's health and well-being.

What can be done to discourage people from using their cars?

Give reasons for your answer and include any relevant examples from your own knowledge or experience. Write at least 250 words.

It is a high time that we start to find out the solutions for increasing problems created by our activities. Among the long list of issues, global warming arguably tops the chart. Before it turns out to be unmanageable disaster, a concerted effort from everyone is required. The data clearly show that increasing number of cars on our streets has aggravated the problem of global warming. Therefore, we should find the remedies to tackle the issue.

First of all, there is a need of massive investment in public transportation system. Government must make proper allowance of budget and other resources to augment the standards of roads and buses plying on our neighborhoods. It is no secret that people are forced to order taxis and cars because our public transportation is simply unreliable and unpredictable.

Secondly, what can be done is that government should impose and increase the toll and taxes on the car users. If the car user is made to pay high amount of taxes, it will act as a deterrent. That leads to the substantial reduction of registration of new cars. When the public transportation system is upgraded simultaneously with increase of taxes, it will compel some of the car users to switch to buses and trams etc.

It would also be wise on the part of the government to incentivize clean energy. That is to say, government should provide subsidy to electric cars, battery run vehicles etc. Government should be forth coming to reduce import and purchase duties on such vehicles.

Last but not the least suggestion that could be made is that public institutions responsible for environment protection should be pro-active to enforce the existing rules and regulations. The numerous strict and stringent laws relating to emission standards passed by parliaments have been ineffectively enforced mainly due to rampant corruption in many countries. If such situations change, the car owners will check the vehicles regularly and make sure that they are within the emission norms.

Therefore, in my conclusion, I would argue that all the stakeholders must be enjoined to fulfill their obligations and commitments to protect the environment. This should necessarily be followed by strict enforcement of laws.
